Describe depression so that everyone can understand it

SW-User
A crushing weight and a pervasive malaise that infects every fibre of your being. It tells you you're worthless, useless, unlovable, unnecessary, undeserving of living, and much more besides. It robs you of everything you were before, and leaves you a melancholy shadow of a person.

@MikefromEP Things get VERY bad for me very quickly.

@SW-User Why do you focus on one moment?

@MikefromEP What do you mean?

I feel like I'm speaking over people when I answer this question. Everyone's experience is different, I don't know if I can apply a blanket statement.

I think it's more complex than sadness. Emptiness might be more apt. How we try to fill that void varies.

@SW-User A feeling of better than most and no connection

Depression is an addiction to being sad... Just like the heroin addict who can't stop! They know that each high just contributes to the destruction of everything in their lives, but they can't help themselves. Their brain gets wired in a way that prevents them from being able to get sober... Just like a person with depression can't feel joy.
I think it varies and depends on the person, for me it’s just kind of like feeling numb and there’s a total lack of interest and motivation in anything. There’s no clear thinking, it’s just rash and careless thinking and there’s the mentality that there’s no solution to feeling okay or better.

No engry, no motivation to even get up. Always wanting to sleep your life away. You are a shell the the person you truly are. Everything in your life you think of in a negative light and worry about things you might not need to.

@sillysweetgirl Portraying life to another image?

A shadow that looms over you 24/7. A common misconception is when people think that someone with depression doesn't want to be happy. Obviously we do, but it isn't that simple

@TacoBella A lighter blanket when sleeping?

There's no motivation left in your body to do anything. People tell you to do something about your depression, but you have no motivation to regain motivation. It's a self fulfilling error in your brain.

@MartinTheFirst Hold your hands upright infront of you.. which one is more full?
SW-User
Don't even try to climb out of the pit because the demons will just throw you back down to the bottom
MikefromEP · 51-55, M
@SW-User I crawled out.. and I sent them on their way
