Do Men TRULY like/want a confident woman?

I hear men often say that they like a confident female, but is this really so? Most men have the natural instinct to be the "rescuer" and seem to gravitate towards women needing some type of emotional support. A woman who comes across as confident may be seen as less desirable and to independent (not needing to be rescued) Does this inclination to rescue lead them away from the type of female they claim to appreciate?

*Open to anyone to answer. This is not a moral or political statement and directed at no one. It is food for thought and treat it as such:)*

Absolutely. For me at least. I tend to see the "rescuer" inclination as universal. That is, both men and women have rescue modes, and I find them admirable in both men and women.

I think the need for emotional support is likewise universal and genderless. While we may not feel a need to be rescued, we all need to feel accommodated, valued, accepted and admired a little, not in a flattering sense, but more like "I enjoy your company" sense.

All my loves and near-misses have been very self confident, with the self confidence being probably the major attraction. Even friends and brief encounters that leave me with a faster heartbeat are always confident.
