Are some people just born in this life a failure?

Or do we just screw up and fail as we go along?

That is a good question. I was one that was born in a situation where I was suppose to never succeed at anything. I was told I did not have the capacity to succeed by family. But I did it anyway with lots of hard work. So that makes me believe that anyone can succeed if they try hard enough. And succeeding is not always easy but it can be done.
