Different members of a website being falsely accused of being the same person under different names when I know them in real life and know who they are. Why does that even happen?

SW-User
@NankerPhelge Aaah, that happens when someones paranoia gets over their common sense.

@SW-User But why would site moderators be so paranoid as to let it get over their common sense?

SW-User
@NankerPhelge Side moderators? I'd think they check ip addresses?
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User So I've been told. But when the people concerned were using an Internet cafe of which the manager is a personal friend of the people involved, don't you think they should take his word for it regarding who is who? Also, what about other obvious differences revealed in the postings of the people involved? For example, one's birthday is in February and the other's is in July, and even more obvious, they write and punctuate differently? Once my colleagues and I found out which moderator was responsible, we grilled him for months afterwards (a year even) but he still wouldn't tell us the truth. That was when that guy became really paranoid - when we found him out and started broadcasting it. But it was his own fault for going by public IP addresses (despite being previously told not to) instead of checking the more obvious in-your-face facts. So how do idiots like that become site moderators?

SW-User
@NankerPhelge Is this on SW or EP?
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User Neither. It was Answerbag, but it's the same principle. When certain members of any site are real-life friends, isn't it better to check with their real-life friends about who is who? It makes far more sense to me.

SW-User
@NankerPhelge Ah but Answermug was not professional at all, I'm really sorry to say. It was very biased and Janet and the other mod would favour the people they liked.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User Sorry, did I say Answermug? I meant to say Answerbag. Mind you, Answermug went down the same toilet when Just Asking took over it. It was fine before that one started running it. Weylon should never have sold it to JA in the first place, it was fine when he ran it. I haven't the faintest idea who Janet is.

SW-User
@NankerPhelge Oops my mistake. You did say Answerbag, I do not know why my mind read it as Answermug.
NankerPhelge · 61-69, M
@SW-User Just a Freudian slip. It happens. Lol :)

SW-User
@NankerPhelge :)
