Does Freedom of Speech really give you the right to insult someone personally?

It seems many use "Freedom of Speech" as "right" to INSULT people personally.

In the South African Contitution one may have the right to say whatever you want and voice your opinion, yes.... BUT that does NOT give you the right to INSULT someone personally as this is a DIRECT violation of the constitution itself as an INSULT is in contravension of Section 10 which states “Everyone has inherent dignity and the right to have their dignity respected and protected.”

Yes, insulting someone based on their own opinions/beliefs/faith/religion/political views... or WHATEVER... is unconstitutional thus Freedom of Speech cannot be used as a defence or excuse.

Please do THINK before you decide to insult anyone personally and try to use Freedom of Speech as a defence?

Basically practice Common Courtesy to all... is that really too much to ask for?

Yep... here in the USA .....but it also gives the person the right to attack you physically for that insult ... 😁

@SW-User Is that really the case?

@iMystery Don't you hear the insults flying on the news or talk shows? I mean no law is broken but I don't think one would get very far insulting their teachers or professors and etc.... But it is against the law to be attacked physically by someone tho for any reason ...It is just a consequence to expect it if one insults the right person !

@SW-User Yeah I see the insults on shows but figured that is just for entertainment purposes... I dont watch shows much though.

@iMystery Also to insult one personally for their beliefs is just rude... People can have their own opinions even if wrong....
SW-User
@iMystery oh nooo not for entertainment purposes !! No no... Have you never watched the US presidential debates? That's the real deal... sad tho
iMystery · M
@SW-User Nope... I have no reason to watch US presidential debates. not my country. I dont even watch my own country's debates. No interest in politics really.

I live my life, care for my own, ensure my own survival and that of those in my care. That is all I am interested in.

@iMystery My point was that it is a prime example to insulting one to their face and if it is against the law or not! My point was not if you've really watched them or not. Why getting snide with me?? I was only answering your question. 🙄

@SW-User Lol was not getting snide. Just sounded a bit like an assumption that everyone watches US debates/shows lol.

@iMystery Nope... not at all. Even tho many abroad do and think they know more what we need tgan we know what we need ! I NEVER assume anything about anybody and not much surprises me anymore! 😲
