I talked with a young muslim male today at work.

I walked with my hound and went inside to get him a bowl of water. As my friend drank this guy was happy to see my pup drink and was excited to play with him. He was telling me that how you treat pets is how you are affected in the after life. I asked him what happens if you beat a woman. He immediately stopped talking. Did I say something too offend him...?

Hmmm. Dogs are haram. He must have been pretty laid back. I actually dig Islamic modernism. I hope it catches on! Islamic modernism focuses on the Prophet of Mecca and considers the words of the Warlord of Medina strictly in historical context. They catch a lot of flack from fundamentalists. Like all religions, if you take the good stuff in the writings, it's actually pretty awesome.
