Is ticking me off tonight.
Pressing new I'm getting stuff hours old
Then pressing custom getting stuff that that's more recent and not seen when pressing new.

It's because the post has been interacted with, thus, making a "New" incident within the Post. So the algorithm placed the post in the newer provenance status.
