I Have Something On My Mind

I’m currently taking my 3rd online ESL course to get my TESOL certification. There are 5 altogether, 7 weeks each. I kicked butt in the first two. I should be done all 5 by November. I wouldn’t be taking these 5 courses had my college accepted my Canadian certification from 1998, but they didn’t.

In the meantime, I also have to take 2 training courses, so I can get Distance Education Certified for remote online teaching before the end of the year. This is a requirement for the community college I teach at & others as well. I’ve already completed the first course, and the second course I will do in July.

Ironically however, due to Covid, there may be less ESL classes offered, and since I am at the bottom of the totem pole on the seniority list, I may not be assigned a class for the fall term. So despite my intentions of completing my TESOL certification, as mandated by my college, I could be SOL in the end.

Funny how life turns out sometimes. 😐🤷🏻‍♀️

Interesting. What curriculum do you teach?
marsbar · F
@Oster1 I teach English as a second language to adult immigrants. It’ll be 22 years in September.

@marsbar Good for you! That is so impressive and such a great asset to them and society as a whole. When I eventually get to the Philippines, I would love for you to tutor me in Tagalog!

@Oster1 Thank you 😇

Are you planning to move there?

I’m not 100% fluent in Tagalog. Lol

@marsbar I do think about living there but am concerned for the future. My near plans are to learn all I can and travel to different areas, in the islands. The Philippine Government has one of the best extended stay visa programs in the world, as you know. I really am excited because your beautiful country and the good people there, have so much to offer and are so welcoming and kind!🤗❤️

@Oster1 Yes, they’re very hospitable there.

@marsbar Do you live there? I thought you did. I knew you also lived in Canada.
marsbar · F
@Oster1 I was born there but moved to Canada when I was 3. Now I’m living in the States.

@marsbar Oh wow! I didn’t realize and should have. That is wonderful and I know you will pass your ESL with ease!😇

@Oster1 That’s O.K. Thank you. 😇
