Do you think things would generally keep getting better for the next fifty years or are we headed for an apocalypse soon?

I gave up on the everything will keep getting better for the next fifty years approach about fifty years ago. But that doesn't mean I think we are headed for an apocalypse soon, because (1) history tells us that everything is pretty much cyclical (2) humankind, despite current appearances, is intelligent enough to pull out of its trendy nosedives and (3) few things in life are truly either-or choices, no matter how much the new digital age tries to force it to be.
