There Are Very Few Wars Worth Waging
Here I am.
Sitting inside the peace that you’ve created inside my soul.
Ever thankful to feel it once again..
You’ve always brought me peace.
My heart adored it.
My soul loved it.
My brain..?
It told me it was a trick, a trap, a threat!!!
That’s where my work has been.
Like an apprentice electrician; Am I.
Learning how to heal the wounds of my childhood, and rewiring the synapses of my befuddled brain.
Learning to recognize those times my mind goes all caveman survival mode, and interrupt it.
To see that little boy inside me crying because of his situation way back when that he’s still trapped inside of.
I listen to him and I let him know that he’s going to be okay and I give him a healing hug.
I take moments to search out my psyche and all of its many parts. To acknowledge them all and ask them what they need to feel they are made safe and loved by me?
I ask them to trust me.
I should have healed these parts of me and made them safe long ago. But I honestly didn’t know that they existed. I was so busy surviving, and being misled by my inner child and his inner caveman, that I never realized that I could just be happy and live my life without worrying about all the things that I cannot control. Completely ignorant of the fact that what seemed normal to me was harmful to others.
But now I know, and as GI Joe says…, knowing is half the battle.
I’m waging the other half of the battle now.
It’s a war worth waging.
A war for my peace and happiness.
So that I can share it with you.
A war for my soul and heart.
So I can give them to you.
Damn…, I love you so much.
Not sure if you know how sorry I am for finding you while I was still mostly broken?
I am working on it.
I am waging this war.
A war fought not with weapons or anger.
But rather with understanding, learning, and self love
