@yestestvennaya American's enslaved people for life and even for generations within a family. They were denied basic human rights in totality. Roman slaves were indentured and were often educated.

@faery Only minority of slaves in Roman Empire were educated, and those were usually Greek. Even among Greeks, most were manual laborers.
There were many revolts, and very few slaves accepted or enjoyed their condition. The diversity of slaves is due to Roman expansionism, not Roman appreciation of different races. There is no difference.
