My friend C brought me a thought today.
She said...
Did you know that the people who become our exes we don't ever see again?
I said ..
What do you mean?
She said that from the moment we say good bye we stop seeing them, not even around town.
And the more I thought about it the more evident it became.
I don't remember ever seeing any of my ex es after a break up not even around town. Although we could argue that it was from a dedicated effort of theirs. Anyway.

Which brought up the question.

If the person you are saying goodbye to, right there in front of you, were to explode in a puff of dust to disappear forever from your life. Like death. |Not turning back.

Would you say goodbye more or less often?

This post makes me think of everyone I've lost in life not just exes. Your puff of dust is death. Vickie was the most painful goodbye in my life.
As far as exes one I never want to cross paths with ever so goodbye is good riddance.
The other I learned passed away less then a year after the pandemic began. With that news I got a sinking feeling because we didn't part on bad terms but I made a point to not look back because I felt deserted.

How many times do you think goodbye can be said?

@Gibbon
Not sure who Vicky was, but sorry for your loss. I feel the pain thru your words.

That's a good question.
Maybe there's only one real goodbye, the other ones are just practice.

Thank you for your touching snswer

I'm good with not seeing my exes again. Poof.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@CurrentName I've thought about it, and I'm really ok with that. Perhaps I'd pay my respects if they go before I do? Not sure about that.

Most my exes, well All my exes 😊 have done the leaving. I'm usually slow at saying goodbye.
But it doesn't take me long to shrug and say .. oh well .. and at that point .. funerals?.. kidney transplant?.. nah.. it's over then.

@CurrentName Whether they're here, not here, or on Mars, my exes weren't good for me, so, although I wish them long happy lives, I need them out of mine.

I loved all of my exes. We were just incompatible. I would never want them to turn to dust... I wish our mistakes could turn into dust and any hurtful memories could explode away.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Mindful I like the last sentence. That would work for me.

@Mindful love this

Oh I loved them all too, until they were my exes. 😊
Not really, some I still loved long after they said goodbye.
Yeah that would be great, if our mistakes were to explode into dust and float far far away.
That would be so awesome!
Thank you for your insight

I dont usually say goodbye. Sometimes it just hurts. Id rather just walk away.
@lissah Takes even more courage to do so. 🤗
CurrentName · 51-55, M
@lissah it does hurt. Sometimes there's a lot invested . Emotionally and in terms of time wasted. Plus the whole act of saying goodbye is sad and draining.
So id be fine with a text you know.

I wouldn't change anything.

'Hello' and 'Goodbye' don't really have much linguistic meaning to them.

We use them as social glue. The stuff that adheres us to each other and helps us get along.

A nod and a wave have the same function.

The words that we use between the meeting and the departing have much more significance.

@Thodsis That's true. Ty

I wouldnt necessarily say goodbye. Maybe thank you, or I love them.

I didn't know that. Thank you!
I was thinking of the Roberta Flak song, Killing me softly.
ScarletWitch · 31-35, F
