The invisibilty of age

You never think of it when youre young.

Never think how one day people just wont 'see' you.

We never even think how we dont see older people.... because we never notice them.

And when we do, its with some kind of unattractiveness that we naturally shy away from due to our own fears of losing youth.

Yet, think of the inner strength one must need to be older. To lose all that depended upon by youth:
- Physical attraction
- Physical ability
- connection to popular culture
- the vibrancy and flippancy that comes with 'time yet to spare'.

Do you have the strength to age beyond these things?
To lose these traits that appeal to others and are social commodities?

What would you do if you lost them tomorrow?

Do you have all those other traits and strengths that are needed to age with grace and confidence?

I actually had this thought earlier today. While I am still youngish. I have worked with seniors a good part of my life. I also have always felt like and old soul trapped in a young body. When I was driving today I noticed in my review mirror this older lady fixing her hair in the mirror after looking at a younger girl. And I wondered how she felt. Perhaps she felt insecure that she didn’t look young anymore. I wondered if her husband sitting beside her tells her she’s beautiful still. Then I thought how the times that we live in really does make only one generation feel relevant.
If it helps at all. The older generations are actually more pure and real.
@DayDreamer3 you sound like an old soul.

And you're right....every era really only has one generation that is socially relevant and dynamic.

Aging is such an odd experience.
Its both a contradiction and some sort of ironic joke that as we gain wisdom, we lose the ability to render it when it was needed most.

Its also like wearing a body that isn't yours. That doesn't fit properly - that you don't recognize.

@OogieBoogie I’ve been told that my whole life. I see and feel to much.

The younger generation and still partly mine. Are in a battle right now. We are having to fight for self worth and self realization. When we are being fed to think and be a certain way. When our souls are screaming for something else. While your generation might feel irrelevant you are actually the voice of reason and clear thinking that the younger generations need to hear.

We are not our body’s. They are just vessel’s. Trust me your soul is forever the same. Beautiful.
@DayDreamer3 im 55. My generation is the forgotten generation. We have no expectations of being recognized for ourselves.
Ergo we dont strive for it.

I think its why we dont understand the desire for it.

Not that it isnt needed.

Every generation has its own fight, its own battles to engage.
Its how we all move forward.

The thing is & we forget we are fighting for everyone, not just ourselves.

@OogieBoogie I wonder why they want older generations to feel forgotten? I wonder why they make younger generations feel entitled to it all? I think you have a valid point.. they want us to feel divided.

I long for the day where we are all seen as souls and not body’s and numbers.
@DayDreamer3 i think its just the natural course of maturation of consciousness:
We start off young and feel vibrant and immortal and all the change of the world is about us and we think we bring it uniquely with us.

- we just dont think about the change that other generations bought with them.
- each new gen feels its the most misunderstood, most rebellious, and must wear the problems the one before created.

Its not until we are older we see a bigger picture as the whole cycle of life replays itself to yet a newer, slightly different tune.
- that each generation builds on the struggles of the one before.

I think youth is so full of joire de vivre and zest its not in their nature to stop and read the road signs first 😅
