The invisibilty of age

You never think of it when youre young.

Never think how one day people just wont 'see' you.

We never even think how we dont see older people.... because we never notice them.

And when we do, its with some kind of unattractiveness that we naturally shy away from due to our own fears of losing youth.

Yet, think of the inner strength one must need to be older. To lose all that depended upon by youth:
- Physical attraction
- Physical ability
- connection to popular culture
- the vibrancy and flippancy that comes with 'time yet to spare'.

Do you have the strength to age beyond these things?
To lose these traits that appeal to others and are social commodities?

What would you do if you lost them tomorrow?

Do you have all those other traits and strengths that are needed to age with grace and confidence?

When I reveal my age to someone their attitude to me changes dramatically.

Although I’m comfortable with it, they are not.

So best not let them know , I think.
@peterlee i understand that.
I dont filter my selfies.
I make a point not to.
But then....i know not to show my age group due to experience.

I would become more invisible every encroaching year otherwise.

Its very interesting to see how youth is celebrated and adored, while age brings its limits.

And in agreeence, the adapting attitudes of others

Few see beyond it.

@OogieBoogie It’s especially true on here. When I originally joined I was taken aback.

Of course you can lie. A lot of people do.

But in real life I get it too. People ask me what I do for a living. When I say I’m retired they clam up the conversation quickly.

So I just say I’m an artist and keep them guessing.

@peterlee @OogieBoogie Totally relatable. There is instant judgement of some sort. I see the ageism here frequently. It's easier to just not make it a factor. People are usually shocked anyway. I'd rather just be treated as a human minus the labels and preconceived ideas.
🤗@Magenta Its a little ironic really. This new generation is all about identity, yet they rarely apply their philosophy to others.

Im just kinda glad that we are both of the forgotten generation - we grew up not having any identity and learnt to cope with it.
