Saturday Night Fever....it's not about disco.

All the hype, all the pizzazz....John Travolta and all that jazz..

...it's all bullshit .

SNF is about finding the ocean you want to swim in, and if you're lucky enough ....youll find someone to swim those depths with you .

It's not about disco....or your tribe, or winning .
It's about dumping everything fake for who you really are .

Not disco - Discovery

It was way deeper and darker, and uglier than I expected .

I now see why it's iconic for it's time .

🎶" Because we are living in a world of fools
Breaking us down .
When they should all just let us be "🎶

I watched it last year for the first time and it impressed me more than expected also.
The 70s was a great era for depicting human depth and complicated emotions onscreen.
I think if the movie was made 10 years later they'd do it as romantic fairy tale fluff.
@robingoodfellow i completely agree with you.
It's like the 70's (maybe early 80's) was the last bastion of real life reflected in movies .

Not saying that we don't get a gem now and then, but today most of it is regurgitated predictable mush.

I can't believe I left it this long to see it .
But then ....imma kinda glad I did, as I got to see it's depth and grit and struggle.
And if you swap disco for social media, it makes it relevant still today :
Everyone desperately escaping their mundanity and worries under the guise and glam of pretending to be someone else .

I like it so much more now
@HannahSky way grittier than I expected .

@OogieBoogie it really was
It’s about lapels and bell bottoms

Much better film than I thought it would be. Like most, I was pummeled by the Bee Gees and the soundtrack and all, then a "PG" rated version of the movie got released(the original "R" rating kept all under 17 away unless with an adult). That's the one I saw, then the "R" version later. Very surprised.

When it was first released on video, the framing was done incorrectly and the boom mic is visible in a few shots at the top of the screen. Kinda funny.
@uncalled4 i was really surprised .

I thought it was gonna be cliché and mushy ...but it wasn't .
It wasn't even romantic....it was.a little brutal and realistic 👀

@OogieBoogie I think it was based on real stories of all the NYC party people. It was originally called "Saturday Night", but when the Bee Gees came up with "Night Fever", it got grafted onto "Saturday Night", hence the title.
@uncalled4 oh...I did not know this .
It now comes with a warning at the beginning that it has scenes some people might not like .
(But then gives.no idea what they are 🤷)

I always assumed it was just a glitzy feel good movie .
So it surprised me
