Csn you get electrocuted by a loose light socket?

I rent.

Light blew, got a new one , but when i went to change it , the light socket literally just twisted around.
And when i gave it a push (as you do with bayonet bases) it just slid up into the light batten.

I mean, i could turn off the circuit, but i looked in the breaker box....amd this place is so old all the lables have faded and i cant tell which is which.

And our landlord is shit at commiting to fixing stuff

You could just turn all the mains power off.
@KiwiBird i could.

But i also dont like knowing i have an iffy light fixture .... that i just accidentally shoved back into the cieling.
I pulled it nack out by the dead bulb.

But ....the wiring might be bad too🤷‍♀️

I dunno....im very wary around this stuff.

I need to find a new place.🙄

@OogieBoogie You need an electrician. Do it through the agency because the landlord isn't entitled to raise the rent on an ohs issue.
@KiwiBird oh she doesnt do it straight away.

But guaranteed that when it comes time to renew.....it goes up relative to how much repairs got done that year.
Two years ago it went up something like 15%, which was a lot. (Rental market was highly competitive - nigh impossible to get into).
But we also had a major heating repair that year.
I like the area, i love tje trees akd the woodheater....but, place is falling apart🤷‍♀️

@OogieBoogie That makes sense...

Rents here can only be increased yearly or at the start of a lease period.
@KiwiBird same here.
Its just ive noticed a pattern with the increases - they arent indexing at rhe same ammount, or following intrest rates etc.

I get that this is an investment property.
And that the best profit is to be made with the least cost .

But when light fixtures are literally perishing in ones hands (which happened last time - it literally crumbled to pieces in my hand) , i would think some sort of relative safety of keeping a place maintained for it inhabitants would be nice 🙄

@OogieBoogie If I was your landlord it would be and not taken into account at lease renewal.
@KiwiBird its funny how rare it is that good landlords get good tenants, and the Same the other way .

I hear so many horror stories.

@OogieBoogie If I am getting a new tenant/new lease I will ask the market rent. If the tenant is a good one I keep any increase to a minimum even if the rent falls below market.
