I live by myself,

And I keep thinking that maybe I need to get life alert. My bedroom is upstairs and I go up and down the stairs quite a bit. I'm kinda clumsy at times and if I fall down the stairs and can't get to my phone, my animals would soon be eating my corpse. No one checks up on me. I don't have a job so no one would miss me if I didn't show up. What do you think?
Wolffy · 56-60, M
I hope you don't fall down the stairs that what kind of suck I live by myself but I don't have any stairs as for the animals eating your corpse well no good hopefully they eat you before you're a corpse little crazy humor there sorry🐺

I think you are not in a good situation. Living alone by yourself is to be without a support system. I know it is not a matter of choice because a support system of family and friends is hard to come by.

Most times, death doesn't come swift and painless.

It would probably be a good idea. Stuff happens. And if nobody is checking on you or expecting you anywhere, anytime; it's a legitimate question. Getting old sucks

This actually terrifies me.

Others have given sound advice. I’m thinking maybe workout and be active if you aren’t already. That way, you stay healthier and independent for many years to come.

My dad is in his mid 70s and he can carry those gallons of water jug around. He cleans the the house and is pretty active in his retirement. He walks for half an hour to an hour a day.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@SW-User I do stay active. I exercise and I'm in fairly good shape. But my stairs are steep and I have one knee that's kinda weak. I try to watch my steps but it's just a worry I have.

@melissa001 yeah sorry, that’s rough. I was thinking maybe doubling down on your weak area and do stair exercises, but bad knees usually can’t handle them and probably will need a knee replacement at some point.

I guess being extra careful and bringing in the life alert system are good.

Is there a way to make the stairs safer? For example anti slip tape or led lights?
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Queendragonfly not at all.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Queendragonfly I've had to call for help for him twice. I definitely can't count on him.
Queendragonfly · 31-35, F
@melissa001 Oh, that bad. Yeah then he's not to trust.

I know how it feels, as I live alone too.
Life alert is a good service.
Sometimes it helps to have online friends too who can stay in touch and can check on you by messaging. Or you like, we can be such friends.
Please take care of yourself.
Be safe.
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Nick1 thank you.

@melissa001 You welcome.

Have you checked out the cost?

Consider a possible situation where you fell and broke a hip. That happened to a person I know.

MrBrownstone · 46-50, M

melissa001 · 51-55, F
@MrBrownstone I'm not an invalid yet. But probably eventually.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
Why are you clumsy?
melissa001 · 51-55, F
@Jenny1234 lol. I guess just getting too old.
MartinTheFirst · 26-30, M
put traction strips on the edges of the stairs and have a carpenter install a rail for you to hold onto, you won't have to fear that anymore
....or make it a habit to keep your phone on you ?
