Actually, it can be a nice way just to get a change of focus. At home, your head is always on "home stuff".
In a hotel/B&B, you can let go and relax into the moment. Someone actually gave a weekend in a local B&B as a wedding anniversary for their elderly parents.
I think it was a great gift for that couple, considering that the location they booked was fairly centrally located. The bus dropped them off more or less right outside the door, they had bed and breakfast sorted... there was a cafe, library and the town centre within walking distance so they could go for a drink and a celebratory meal together, or walk downtown and catch a bus back to their B&B using their free bus passes (you don't want to walk up town because it's on a big hill). If they wanted to, they could go to the cinema in town or the theatre in the city.
It wasn't really something that I thought I would've considered... but it's certainly something that I wouldn't turn my nose up at if the place is centrally located, just because of the fact that you get to experience your own town/city in a way that few other people really think of doing.
