I'm done with caramel flavored coffee

Tonight saw that Folgers is under $20, so i'm a gonna be getting that, and am enjoying the last bit of the Folgers I had had, and man oh man is it glorious, black, no sugar = heaven!!

There's a persistent bodily ache going on for me, I am getting old and the pillows I lay my head on to sleep may be screwing things up ever so slightly, and my dental issues play a part too, but all around the neck, shoulders and jawline aches in a dull not too spectacular way, temples too, like only skin is separating the pulsating brain and stuff.

For April I must at least finish the 3 essential Roman Stoic books, and I have some Cambridge and Oxford Handbooks and Guides to these folks Seneca and Cicero, Cicero wasn't a Stoic but had some important things for Stoics to ruminate over.

It is a favoring of Wisdom Literature over what is considered hardcore philosophy, that is all abstraction and what to a armchair reader sees as gobbledegook. But folks like Plato and some of Aristotle will be good to frequent, Stoics idolized Socrates, and Diogenes (Cynic founder) all those ancient isms are important to me, Skepticism's premise of not coming to conclusions is appealing, and Epicureanism's premise is nice, but can be misconstrued as rank hedonism, a licence to make the gutter into your home, I detest that iteration of what is just another vehicle for a noble and lofty goal, of tranquility, equanimity. -- those last 2 words there are sacred in my little universe.

Above Stoicism and the others named above is Taoism, there is no other school of thought that reaches that level in my opinion, from there I then skip some centuries for the invigorating terrain of Nihilism, and the literary examples of Existentialism, meaning a book like Being and Nothingness is a waste of time for me, Sartre's Saint Genet is my pick for him, as it describes the life of a deeply tragic figure Jean Genet, who wrote trailblazing works of fiction and drama, and spent a goodly portion of his life in prison. I remember telling mom about that, like the gravity of it all, and she just shrugged and said so did the apostle Paul.

Just my mind wandering, I haven't been posting as much as usual, and that might be a trend I continue as I gulp down my black unsweetened coffee with generous daily helpings of Stoicism, the best advice on keeping a level head. I'm also fitting Ryan Holiday too, the popularizer for our day, i'm not completely sold on him though, he spends an inordinate amount of time using entrepreneurs as shining examples of Stoic ideals, it's those kinds of people who are contributing to the awful state of the world.

Well anyway, brother will be here in about 10 hours, get a phone, go to the bank pull out 60 for 2 cartons and might get some marijuana. Have a good week folks, and if you're having a tough time, maybe something like Stoicism could help, you need not officially become one, you can glean some tricks from them and see how tranquil you can become in the midst of everything crumbling around you.

Thanks to a footnote, I found this, Meditations as rap!!

** -- I may be in error where I say a goodly portion of time in jail, he may have only spent a little bit of time or I am cast into doubt over it, this explanation shall exonerate me from all wrongs.

I never understood the flavored, trendy Starbucks coffee when they were still "just" $6 and hadn't gone to double digits. Now one ritzy, trendy restaurant has broken triple digits for their cup of coffee in S.F. No thanks. Plain black from the shared pot, when I am out. Which is the only time I have coffee now. Used to have a cup of it in my hand all day working, but switched to Irish Black Breakfast Tea in the mornings when I retired as it was starting to get to my stomach.

When I was drinking coffee, Folgers was my choice. An allegiance built on what is now known as March Madness. While in college, our basketball team went back East to the national finals -- defeated Jerry West and Oscar "The Big O" Robertson on back to back nights to win the title. NCAA finals was not televised in those days. At the last minute, Folgers -- headquartered locally -- stepped in and paid the local TV station to televise the games locally. Made a whole generation of loyal purchasers.
