Do we really change, or do we just get better at hiding who we are?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot. People say time changes you, but I feel like the core of who I am is still the same. I’ve just learned which parts to show to whom. Do you think people genuinely change over time, or do we just adapt to different situations? Curious to hear your perspectives.

Habits determine behaviour. Thinking a certain way reinforces that thought pattern. People do change through repition. It just takes a very long time. Repitition of a new belief will reinforce it but it takes a while and external positive reinforcement. thats why therapists exist.

@twistedrope yeah i get what you're saying. i guess the hard part is sticking with the new thing long enough for it to actually stick. most people probably give up before it ever gets there including me honestly.
