That can be true. So much depends on the intent of the assailant. If the intent is to rob or rape, the use of the gun is to kill is less likely. Someone wielding a knife is more apt to use it. That’s the issue.
From a survival aspect, a gunshot wound is more lethal. You can also run from a knife, which is usually the best option.
If the point is which is an easier disarm for someone that’s well trained, the gun is an easier disarm. That said, if the intent isn’t to kill, compliance is your best option.
If you’re well trained and it’s knife on knife, you’re likely going to get cut. The concept of knife defense exists, but it’s almost a misnomer.

@Adogslife We have a problem in Britain not with guns, though shootings do occur, but with knives; mainly between teenagers in "gang" fights.
One fifteen year old boy has recently been charged with murdering another boy of the same age by stabbing - I am not sure if he has been tried or sentenced yet. (The sentencing in a serious case, of a defendant pleading or found guilty, is often by a later hearing.)
Such incidents and the illegal carrying of knives anyway, has been investigated by the Police and criminologsts, who found that such arming actually increases the risk of being attacked. The boys' usual excuse is "self-defence", not understanding they are inviting attack; but of course they should be taught and convinced to avoid being drawn into that sort of life, often based on drug-dealing, in the first place.

I never encountered someone with a gun. (Although the old fellas used to talk about the time it was legal to shoot us)
And I have been attacked by someone with a knife 6 times. I just got out of their way as best I could. Disarmed 3 of them cause I had a broom close to hand each time. Not fun.

I'd worry about either person but at least if you can run away - your best defence against a thug in the street - you are rapidly out of knife range.
I am no expert on fighting, whether in the Armed Services or against some useless coward in the street, and my risk of being shot is extremely low; but I believe there are self-defence methods you can use against a knife-wielder. Though it does take training, very quick reactions and of course, not panicking in the real attack.

People tend to think the opposite for some reason, but you're right.

Depends on how close is close.
If the assailant or the one holding a gun is out of reach of your extended legs or arms, then you are most likely not going to be able to take care of business.
The mistake those thugs in movies do is that they are all too close to their victims. If you point a gun from a distance of 7 or 8 feet, even the best trained Marine will not be able to control that person.

That's reassuring. Just gotta avoid the entire country then

Worry on the ones as trained as you are.
And even over all, worry on the ones that have nothing to loose.

True. But in real life it usually doesn't work out that way.
DymondHed · 36-40, M
yeah, and many people with guns are afraid to actually pull the trigger

If it's a gun attack if it's a knife run
