A new year’s thoughts

Time is a funny thing. Sometimes you get wrapped up in reliving old moments and memories, at least I do, when real life gets a bit much. It still blows my mind I’m 45 now. In my mind I’m still in my twenties thinking there’s so much time but I’m lying to myself and playing games with memories that truly need to rest. This week I got to put some things to rest in my weary mind when Damonica actually responded to a comment letting me know I was wrong in thinking she could be a ghost from my past. For some reason that helped me put things into perspective and really put the past aside. So there’s that as a plus going into 2024. Hopefully it can be a good year to push forward and stop looking back like I’ve done for too long.

Yeah there's no point in looking back but sometimes I wonder what do I have to look forward to

@solitaire I can definitely understand this as well. I have kids so there’s that element of looking forward to things involving them. But at the same time I need to also figure out things for me to look forward to that are for me rather than the daily grind of work/parenting/deadlines/bills.

@PassingThrough There is nothing to look forward to. One time, I was on a sailboat out at sea and watching a bird on the wing against the wind. It wasn't moving relative to the boat and just flapping its wings every so often just to stay in the air. I was wondering where could that bird be going. The sky was crestfallen and rain was in the air. There was no sign of landfall on the horizon as I was a couple of hundred miles out at sea. I guess you are like that bird. Me too.

@sree251 would you at least put 'free bird' on a loop until you pass?
sree251 · 41-45, M
@atlantic59 Pass what? I said I was on a sailboat. It was moving with the wind. The bird was against the wind where I was and keeping pace with the boat. Remove the wind, and everything (bird, boat and me) would be at a standstill.

The OP evokes a sense of standstill, a timeless state. Life seems to be that to me.
