When she regularly walks her dog and happens to go past every time I go out to my vehicle parked in the street or into my front yard doing yard-work and seemingly has to say something to me that requires a response to be neighborly, and SWMBO sees nothing wrong with her older neighbor talking to me "because she is just being neighborly" (cringe)

If a guy is insecure, it will manifest in lots of interactions but esp if he is attracted/interested. He's used to rejection but hoping this interaction doesn't end the same way.
The insecurity comes from guys caring too much, being almost dependent on others for happiness. If you have a guy that is confident in himself, he won't be insecure, bc it won't matter to him if your interaction turns south.
