It sounds like he's being genuine.
I like that he's not cowering either; it takes balls to directly say that. Most guys will deflect with, "You're beautiful/perfect/etc". This guy said, "He likes your chubbiness".

I don't know you and I don't know him, so I will just make some general observations.

In my experience, women are often a lot more self-conscious about their weight than necessary. Often, the man is not concerned about her weight, but she is.

Also, while a lot of men are jerks, some of us are not as superficial as we are often portrayed to be. If we come to like someone, she becomes more attractive in our eyes.

Do the two of you seem to hit it off? If so, trust that!

He could be interested in you. Everyone has different preferences and lots of guys like a curvy girl

I mean what i say and say what i mean. It would piss me off to say something and have it returned back to me by asking random strangers if i meant what i said. They don't know me.

He is probably looking at you from the inside first, which reflects who you are and what you look on the outside. If he is what he seems to be, better keep this one.

Be glad about what he said. But do not stop trying (if you are trying) to get leaner and more fit.

No reason to believe he isn't being genuine until he gives you a reason to think he isn't being genuine.

Some guys really like curves(as I do), but we also know that there's no way to win when a woman references her weight.

Why would you ask him that ? What if he’d said "yes, you need to lose weight !” Would you have gone on a diet, just for a guy ?
