Money is getting tighter by the day for nearly everyone (just the mega rich dont appear to be concerned about the financial squeeze) but we're still being bombarded to get then latest expensive gadget or 3 piece suite or car. The consumerist ultra-capitalist agenda is still being shoved down our throats.

@jackieash It's a phrase I haven't heard since I left, decades ago. Brought back memories. My parents' 3 piece suite suite was described as 'uncut moquette' and I think it cost them less than two pounds brand new (in he 1930s.) I used to have the receipt, which was among their 'effects'.

@jackieash Well, no 🙂. I grew up in wartime. Almost no one was doing well and we were frugal by necessity. That habit became embedded in our personalities and it still makes sense to me although to a less extreme degree. The 3 piece suite lasted my parents almost their whole lives; was only replaced once, when it was really worn out.
