It seems to me that people use it just because they don't like somebody or if somebody tells them the truth then they're toxic even if they don't tell them in a harsh way.
Honestly, think people, myself included ,sometimes cut people off too quickly without thinking about it first.
If I had to define it I would say it's somebody who continually tramples all over your boundaries or always trying to put you down, even if done subtly.
There's no reason for anybody to exalt themselves above anybody else by putting others down, even if it ain't very often,to me that is very toxic.
Someone, put it this way ,if you're always afraid to answer the phone when this person calls they're probably toxic.
