When did you start standing up to your parents? [I Love to Hear Thoughts And Opinions of Others]

I am 31 and still live my parents. They are very religious and strict. I will be moving out within the next few months.

As a guy I have natural curly hair.

My parents hate it, they want me to get something like this

That is not my style at all. I am planning to get something like this.

If I do they will complain like crazy. Plus my mom will start crying, praying and preaching. I am not trying to hear their mouth. I have respected them all my life. It's time for me to stand my ground. I am sick and tired of living such a safe and obedient life.
Complaining about how your hair literally grows is ridiculously controlling. This has nothing to do with being safe at all. In fact anyone that controlling I'd feel unsafe around.

@canusernamebemyusername Agreed, My parents are good and will do everything for me except allow me to be who I am.

When I moved out last year I didn't have to stand up to him anymore, my pops started respecting my boundaries.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@somedude15 I think that's what I needed to do a long time ago. I have been too passive with them.

When my brother moved out when he was 19 he took me with him when I was 15. I stayed with him and went to school for 2 years til i graduated and joined the navy.

@SW-User Thanks for sharing, hope things worked out great for both of you.

If all they have to complain about is the style of your hair......what do they imagine it represents ?
If they have no complaints over how you conduct yourself.
If they have no complaint about your lifestyle choices.
If they have no complaint over things you’re involved with......you have to wonder why the fuss

@Picklebobble2 No need to apologize, you are 100% right. most christians forget the bible says judge not for ye shall be judged. I tell people appearances don't mean anything. A person can have piercings and tattoos and still be a good person.

@kydflash You have my sympathy but for my two cents, the more you attempt to comply with unreasonable behaviour the crazier it will make you !!

Be your own man !
I’m pretty sure that will be worth more in the long term
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Picklebobble2 Very true, I most definitely have to be my own man and stand up for myself. Can't let them dictate my life anymore.
I left home when I was 20. They had always told me “As long as you live in our house you must follow our rules.” I accepted this and when I tired of those rules, I left. My relationship with them improved when they saw that I was responsible and self-sufficient.

@bijouxbroussard Thank you, I feel that is what I have to do. I just have to stand my ground and move out. And show them I can take care and sustain myself.

I'm in the same boat as you. My mum detested my going for a walk in a park because it's "too dangerous out there" and she told me to "not go too deep in there" and to "stay near the main entrance" and to "sit in one place with my head down".
kydflash · 31-35, M
@assemblingaknob I feel you, I understand the world is a dangerous place. But we can't just live a scared and sheltered life. They fail to understand that we can take care of ourselves.
I have a very abusive family. When it came to the physical abuse, I started swinging back at 15. Only now at 24 I realized that have been gaslighting me and finally put my foot down.
kydflash · 31-35, M
@MorbidCynic I am so sorry you had to experience that. Physical abuse is never ok. I am happy you put your foot down. Hope you are in a better place now.

@SW-User Thank you, I am pulling away from them and going to live my own life. I love them, but need my distance.

It is time to make your own life
but you'll miss the comfort of home
kydflash · 31-35, M
@Ingwe I will miss the comfort of home but at 31 I have to make a life for myself. I feel If I stay here I will never move forward with my life because they will try to dictate every aspect of my life.
LeaDhelani · 22-25, F
Do it (hairstyle)😍😍 and yes time to move out😊
kydflash · 31-35, M
@LeaDhelani Thank you very much, will do. Just trying to save up to move. And decide where I want to move. I am planning on moving around March.

kydflash · 31-35, M
