Honestly, the most effective method is just time. Time provides the distance needed for the mind and heart to detach. Within that time it’s best to develop new habits and feed the hobbies you love that’ll give the ole dopamine a boost so your mind’s less likely to drift backwards.

@Rogo1 Ah, that’s when it gets a bit tricky. That’s when exposure therapy would come into play. That’s what they practice when helping people overcome things like anxiety that can impact their ability to do everyday things. But being briefly exposed to the person you’re no longer attached to can…over time…teach both your heart and mind that you can function without them being such a key factor in your everyday. That they can be something other than what they once were. It’ll be hard as hell in the beginning to breathe the same air as them and bury your impulses to show them the affection you naturally attributed to them, but that’s when you gain the strength to carry on a new path without them. Everything takes time and a determination to just keep on keepin’ on.
