@rinkydinkydoink Oh...he was a big promoter of swimming; because of trade & travel, a lot of people live and work near water, but many people died from drowning because they didn't know how to swim!

He found a book in French which he used to teach himself to swim, and he translated it into English and published it to make a resource available for Americans to learn how to prevent this tragic-yet-preventable death.
