I don’t - or at least didn’t. I have never enjoyed crowds. I have never been much of a concert goer. I don’t shop on Black Friday.

But occasionally, especially if I’m in an unfamiliar or completely unknown situation, I can feel shy or awkward, especially if I feel like “the social norms might be different here.” This happens most often (but still quite rarely) if I find myself in a “fancy” home. The kind with $10,000 window treatments. Not because I am envious, but because I don’t know or much care about people who live “rich.” Because in my opinion, you can’t live rich and be a good person. So I don’t trust you, and because I know you don’t actually see me, I feel like a ghost. I am far more comfortable talking to complete strangers (something that has been the bane of my daughter’s existence. “Mom, please don’t TALK to people.”) it’s maybe a reverse kind of snobbery. If you will judge me on the price of my shoes, I have no time for you.
