I Can Not Sleep

Everytime I try to close my eyes and sleep I start having a nightmare. Do you ever think that your dreams mean anything?

There are several theories on what dreams mean. One is that they're a meaningless collection of facts you've learned throughout the day, turned into a story. The brain's way of transfering data into long term memory. We know sleep is important for that, so dreams may play a role, as well. Either as a side effect or method.

Another is dreams are namely a means for your brain to prepare you for death--or, to familiarize yourself with potential threats, and give you some experience with whatever it is. Which makes sense to me, since most dreams are bad--typically.

There are a few more.

Aside from that, I don't think dreams mean anything profound or celestial or anything.

Here's a website about lucid dreaming. Controlling your dreams, becoming "awake" during them. It's getting more and more recognition in nightmare treatment, and has been proved scientifically by Stephen LaBerge and his Lucidity Institute, for one. Also several others. The studies are interesting, too.
