McNeal Hospital Complaint

I was at McNeil Hospital on May 23rd 2022. And I'm writing a complaint about how poorly and mistreated I was in the emergency room at the ER. I came in at 1pm. There are over 100 people in the emergency room. I already knew it was going to be a long day. By the time any of these nurses saw me it was already past 3:00. I had to wait for a nurse to come see me when they put me in a little room and as I was waiting one of your nurses came in and didn't even know I was in the room and had to check my name because they forgot me. When I spoke to the nurse it was only for a couple minutes and when I asked if she can check my ear she said how do you know it's infected. Because I've been dealing with ear infections since I've been 8 years old for the last 20 years and I know what it feels like when your ear is clogged up and hurting and in pain. She dismissed me to the waiting room without checking it and decided not to and to wait for a room for a doctor. It was 4:00 p.m. at this point. They barely gave me a shot to help with my esophagus. And it didn't do much. So they put me back on the floor with all the others who were coughing in the waiting room. When there were people waiting on the opposite side where ppl initially were to be seen by a doctor. But I was placed to be put where all the exposed people who weren't wearing any masks on the floor on the waiting room. There were literally people throwing up in bags in the waiting room. People were coughing all over the chairs. Anytime I went to the bathroom and came back there were no spots available so I had to sit where others been coughing at and now I don't feel so good now a day later so I'm going to have to get myself checked out because of this but this isn't the complaint. The complaint how completely unprofessional everyone was. I came up at 6pm and asked if I was forgotten at any point cuz I did come in at 1:00 and no one had seen me. And the lady had the audacity to respond back with ma'am there are people dying in the back. I don't know what that has to do with me and my condition but you guys made me a last priority because it was on now already past 9:00 p.m. and I asked for pain medication and you guys refuse to help me with my pain. My esophagus felt like I ate a dozen hot peppers with a burning sensation. Or as if I took a whole bunch of dry pills and there's this aching stinging pain like a match being lit. You even said that there is a high chance of bleeding in my stomach lining but you guys made me your last priority because everybody had come and gone and no one had seen me. They kept telling me there's a room waiting for you and that was at 7. Now it's 10:00 p.m. and I talked to a supervisor and she threatened to walk away from me when I told her I had anxiety. It seems like the staff is only there for the hours and to get paid and not really there for your patients at all. I felt mistreated. And untreated. And everyone who was there still waiting now was there since 6 and I was there since 1:00. There should have been no reason why I had to stay that long when I haven't eaten in 2 days and then waiting 10 hours to be seen by no one. And then you guys say well no one's making you stay lady. Well I said well I kind of need some discharge papers because I was at work and they sent me to the hospital so I can be seen about my issue. But you all completely dismissed me and spoke to me very poorly and treated me with disrespect. But then you guys said well you didn't see a doctor so you won't be getting any papers. So you're telling me that you're going to charge my insurance but you're not going to help me with any of the pain that I'm dealing with nor are you going to help me get a room and there should be no reason why I should have to stay there all day including overnight to be seen by a doctor. Well I'm in so much pain it's absolutely ridiculous that now I have to go to a different medical center right now because it's 1:30 and this is the time they only do walk-ins. I do not appreciate being looked at as a number. And being forgotten. And not being treated when I was in pain. The abuse that I just went through. Because that's what it is it's abuse. Turning away and ignoring me well I'm crying and screaming that I'm in pain. And denying me any help from a doctor and threatening to just walk away when I'm crying and telling them I have an issue and I have anxiety from waiting and sitting 9 hours in pain. Do you even understand what that does to a person. And not understand why you're not being seen and they're not helping you. And then the whole morning staff is gone so now you're dealing with a brand new staff and they have no idea what is going on. And then there's a supervisor who was completely disrespectful. I don't appreciate how I was treated. It shouldn't take over 10 hours for me to be seen by a doctor. I shouldn't have been refused pain medication. When you guys are ready took my urine sample and know that I'm completely clean. And to be treated like I am nothing but a number and to make me your last priority when you seen everybody else is completely unacceptable and this needs to be addressed immediately. I won't be coming back to this ER again. But now it's the next day and I have to go to a different medical center because no one gave a damn. You need to treat your patients better. Because what I went through was completely unacceptable.

That's normal for an ER and there are people who are dying. They have to prioritize by the severity of the illness. Like one time I was in the ER for a broken finger and the guy in the next room had a kidney that failed. I actually told the nurse to go help that guy and that I would be alright. They weren't able to get back to me for six hours. It's like that. They don't have enough staff and they can only do what they can do. It may come off as disrespectful when they tell you things, but they are hearing exactly the same thing from everyone. Imagine being in a place where everyone around you needs your help and you just can't be where everyone needs you. It's not that they don't care, it's that they are tasked with the impossible.

@MrSmooTh look. Me and one other lady were the only ones who were bleeding through our stomach and everyone else came and gone we were in the waiting room waiting there is absolutely no reason why we weren't even considered a priority compared to everyone else. Everyone else came and saw the doctor and they got discharged right away why are we the ones singled out. Not okay. I'm literally in urgent care right now and they've seen me in literally less than 30 minutes.

@ScarletWitch There's no way to know why you weren't considered a priority, because by law medical records can't be disclosed without the person's consent. There could have been people with gunshot wounds or severe trauma in which case they probably took the entire triage team to get them stablized. At urgent care the person you will see is most likely a PA or a physician who hasn't been through residency. If it's minor enough to be seen there it looks like the people in the ER did their job right. Also in the ER, people with minor illnesses will be released back into the waiting room to wait for prescriptions or discharge paperwork so a lot of them probably waited a long time too. Not saying it's a pleasant experience, but it's just how it works. It's a system that really needs to be improved.

This is normal for an ER. The most severe cases are top priority. Why not just call a doctors office and m aske an appointment
