A true artist creates art that inspires, helps and furthers others in the progress through life. This morning my eldest cat had a happy encounter with the newest one. Although newbie is still very shy, she's been with us one month now, she nevertheless went up to the grieving cat to say hello. It cheered up my beautiful midlife cat.
C.S. Lewis famously explored grief in his 1961 book A Grief Observed, written after his wife Joy Davidman's death, rather than a single poem. Key reflections include "No one ever told me that grief felt so much like fear" and "Her absence is like the sky, spread over everything," describing it as a, "long, winding valley".
I urge everyone who's struggling with grief to read this book. It was originally published under the pseudonym N.W. Clerk to allow for raw, honest reflection on the loss, the struggle with faith, and the process of mourning. Grief, like a fog, descends and overtakes one's faculties. Never let it consume your entirety.
This morning I need to take my eldest cat to the vet again. They don't know what's wrong with her. Her blood work didn't have any trace of cancer, but there were indications of it in the first tests. Perhaps the deep grief has struck her also after loosing her beloved playmate near to two months ago?
