It can take a few years. I lost my sister four years ago and still wait for a text asking if I want to hang out.
I know it won't happen but there is still the waiting.
We "know" someone is gone but something inside of us doesn't quite "believe".
I was once told that when we are thinking of someone and really missing them, it is because they are there visiting us.
Impossible to say for sure but it is one thought on the subject.
