I Was Bullied

MrsK reminded me of my own. Not intending to story top.

When I was between 6 and 11/12 I attended a special needs school. I ended up there because damaging both my hands put my school developement back further than it already was. I struggled when I started school, it just didn't stay in my memory at first. I also had lisp and was quite small for my age. All that added up to being transferred.

Being small and looking younger than I was as well as being a special needs earned me a lot of bullying. Kids from my old school that knew me and bullied me were merciless when they saw me (the schools were next door).

My school uniform attracted more people to me because it had a big logo stating what school I went to.

I also got the school bus to school which had the name on it too so everyone in my street knew too.

One of the priviledges given up upon transferring to this school was the right to privacy and to be unaccompanied. There was always a helper to go with me where ever I went and I never got to do anything by myself.

On Mondays and Fridays we shared the school assembly with the school next door (my old school). We were all led by helpers across to the school hall and each one of us that could walk had an arm band with one of those ribons for the helper to hold. I hated being teased about that. I hated sitting with the juniors and the prefect given charge of me and my ribbon. I hated that my former peers could see me the most.

Don't get me wrong. My school was lovely with lovely people but some kids were really nasty to me calling me shorty, baby, spaca and others.

How humiliating that must have been. Kids can be cruel. Good intentions can have bad consequences, especially if people think in stereotypes instead of the individual. Sorry for those difficult years.
