I have social anxiety and GAD, but it is worse when I have to go to the dentist....

In about 3 weeks, I will see a dental surgeon to remove a wisdom tooth that is partially erupted. I was told by all the dentists I saw in my younger years that none of my wisdom teeth would come in. The ones on the bottom, along with my 12-year-old molars, make up part of my lower jawbone and are called kissing molars because of their positions. The ones on top are in the same position; for this reason, all the dentists said, " Don't worry about it. They will never come in". Well, come in it did, but only partially. Only the top right-hand one, though. It came in just enough to allow bacteria to get under the gum line and cause an abscess. This process took several years, but here I am. Had I known this would happen, I would have had my wisdom teeth removed at a much younger age.

I am afraid of surgery now, because I haven't been around any medical personnel in 15 years. I have extreme social anxiety anyway, but when it comes to doctors or dentists, my blood pressure and pulse rate skyrocket. Because of all the issues I have been having with my pulse rate, edema, and shortness of breath over the last couple of weeks, I must admit I have great apprehension about this upcoming dental surgery. They have left it up to me to decide whether or not I will be knocked out or keep awake. I am sure I will choose to stay awake. I have had all my dental work done while I was awake, so this doesn't scare me as much as being knocked out.
