Selective Mutism

I have anxiety. Specifically, selective mutism. I was just wondering if anyone here has heard of it. Also does anyone else here have it? I have been struggling and would like to talk to someone who understands. Feel free to message me.

@SW-User what do you mean by a period of time? And are you able to talk to people fine between these periods of time? There are a few people that i can talk to but other that that i can't talk to anyone else ever

I've had to look up the meaning of it and it seems that I do have symptoms of it. But also I have dissociation that's so bad that I often don't feel anxiety but I will have physical symptoms of anxiety and that can include being unable to speak. And I have a serious aversion to small talk, such as "good morning". Must people really speak to everyone they see?

@shimmeringrose I don't have a problem with "good morning", it's anything else after that. It's nice to say good morning or hello to someone you don't know, but I don't want to get into some long conversation.

@SW-User I am sometimes literally taking the long way out to my car so that people don't speak to me. Sometimes people say "good morning" and I can't even respond. I'd try but sometimes nothing comes out. I have difficulty with useless conversation. I only say "good morning" to people that I like who don't annoy me on a regular basis. To anyone else I will only say "hello". I talk to people all the time, because it's part of my job, but those personal or small talk conversations get to me.

This is the first time I've ever heard of it, sorry

@SW-User it's cool. Most people have never heard of it

I think I had episodes of it but that's only when I have bad anxiety.
