Starting a new treatment
Today was my first day on a new treatment. An invisible first step for others, but a difficult one for me. All day long, my nerves were shot, and I just had to get out. In the late afternoon, I headed to the lake right behind my house, bringing only the bare minimum: my rod and a bronze inline spinner size 2.It was pouring down rain. I was all alone by the water, completely soaked from head to toe. A healing shower that finally managed to numb the dark thoughts. And right there, the miracle happened: silence. No more thinking. No more fear. No more anxiety. No more panic. Just the sound of the raindrops falling on the water.Even the perch wanted to play with me. And then, right before leaving, the surprise of the day: a small pike between 25 and 28 inches. I'm still wondering how I managed to land it with such a small spinner and a 6lb fluorocarbon leader. Once it was in the net, I unhooked it cleanly. It took a few minutes to catch its breath and get some oxygen back, and then it swam away.
Fishing is kind of like that too. A metaphor for mental health. It’s hope; you can always change your retrieve, your lure, or your spot. You look for solutions, you adapt. And if nothing works today... there is always tomorrow.
