I need to lock-in to control the impression people have of me.
I was at a barbeque event, and I mostly just awkwardly stood around, just looking around. A literal kid came up to me and asked me why I was standing awkwardly. I mean, maybe I was but if so, it wasn't intentional. I had no idea what to say, how to react, or how to get away. So, I just mumbled something, I think... I don't even know. The kid (a girl) giggled and walked away.
Surprisingly, this happens to me, maybe not regularly but more than once. If it's not a little kid, it's someone else who confronts me. It's annoying. I don't want this to be part of my identity, and I resent that people might be forming this kind of impression. I need to lock-in and eliminate it or at least diminish it before it's too late. Impressions are hard to change.
