Why do religious people all say 'please pray for me' when they doing anything they feel requires simping?

Like a woman who's a mum having to be away from her young child/children for a couple of days to attend someone's wedding or funeral or other special life event, for some examples.

Life happens - it doesn't need 'annointments'. Just my view of course.

It does look more like fishing for sympathy rather than any sincere spiritual appeal - especially if they know the requestee is not religious, or do not know his or her beliefs.

If sincerely religious they would not need others to pray for them.

To be honest I hear "Think of me" more than "Pray for me"; but still do not hear such appeals very often at all.
