There has to be a solution to the housing problem.

Houses are so expensive now. I hear even the houses in Florida are expensive now. How's my art degree child going to afford a place of her own? I remember renting a cute one-bedroom apartment in a convenient area for 675 bucks a month all utilities included. You cant even rent a room for that much now. What can we do to change things??

Everywhere there's half a million/ million dollar houses but none for like under maybe 330,000 in New Jersey (condos included) unless you want to live in a trailer in the middle of nowhere.

Where in the US is housing more affordable assuming the only solution is to move? I mean maybe theres communal living situations but that has its problems with accountability. Anyone have any ideas for me to help my kid (all our kids who dont make that much money) to move out lol? She wants to live alone. Thats the major problem.

Housing prices in Florida are way down right now. Not to be picky, but why get s degree in art??? Why not get a degree in a field in demand.
@Musicman My oldest niece got a graphics design degree, and cannot find a job in her career field to save her life, she's a live in caregiver now, her mother, my older brother's, who cannot find my rifle, wife, is a weekend overnight charge nurse at their local hospital, she got my niece her job through her contacts.

@NativePortlander1970 Yep! Just think how much better a degree in nursing would have been.

@Musicman so youre saying retail workers dont deserve a home of their own?
@Penny We're not saying that, we're saying go for a more valid practical degree that has an actual real world job.
@Musicman Specially with nursing in high demand.
@Musicman Her younger sister went to pastry school and is now making $40K a year in a bakery, I gave her three calibratable digital kitchen scales with weights as a graduation present.

@Musicman that is true. But the average annual price for homeowners insurance is between 5 and 10 thousand a year. Significantly higher than the national average.

@NativePortlander1970 sadly we're dealing with adhd, bipolar and emotional problems, very strong willed and wont listen lol (or apply herself to anything but art) plus not good at math or writing. there was minor hope for culinary school but she shot it down. (she cant deal with handling certain textures) sigh.. thanks though maybe i could convince ger to go to pastry school in the future
@Penny I was denied culinary school out of high school because of certain food allergies, crustaceans were the coffin nail.

@Penny No I'm not so don't even go there. All I'm saying is that degree in art wasn't free. She should have gotten it in something that could actually get her a good paying career. I made my career in residential construction. I paid cash for the house my wife and I live in today.

@Carla Where are you getting those numbers from? I live in Florida and have to pay for hurricane coverage. We pay $2600 a year.
Penny · 46-50, F
@Musicman yes but imagine trying to buy a house with todays prices on the same wages/salary

@Musicman

The numbers of between 5 and 10 thousand was from a different source.
