I just got a speeding ticket

I was on my way to the gym and I seriously had to go to the bathroom and I honestly didn’t realize I was going that fast. Cop got me for 58 in a 40. I’m totally screwed because there’s no way I can pay it with gas and groceries like they are now. And what is worse is that I’m already paying on two other minor tickets- got pulled over almost 2 years ago for no seatbelt, and then last year I parked too close to a car at work and scraped it and had to pay for repairs to that. I’m so mad at myself for not checking my speedometer.

Should have told him why you were speeding because you had to go to the bathroom, sometimes they let you go or reduce it to a lower offense. I’ve plead them down in the past so I always mail them in not guilty and then plea bargain it down

@Mardrae Maybe you should have soiled yourself right there

I talk my way out of tickets a few times. It's just once and while it don't always work.

One time I got off because I flashed the cop some hairy boob

@HumanEarth 🤣 Yeah, I was going to try to flirt, but the cop was very young and I am old so it wouldn’t have worked.

@Mardrae just think a man in his 50s pull out a big hairy tit. The first thing I'm going to do is laugh my ass off.

There would be no holding it back

Sorry to hear that. I wonder if the judge would give you a break if you actually showed up for court and explained your financial situation. I don't know but it might be worth a try.

@RuyLopez the last time I went to traffic court was many years ago. The judge might reduce the ticket or let me pay installments, but I would make up for that by paying outrageous court costs instead.

@Mardrae I thought they charged you court costs regardless. It has been a while since I got a ticket.
Ouch ! Thats rough. You should try to fight that ticket in court. The prosecutor will typically give you a lesser offense and the court could help with a payment plan.

@Venturist thanks- actually I already paid the ticket. It was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. After researching a little, I found that if I went to court, it could have ended up a lot worse- the cop clocked me at 58 in a 40 and thankfully didn’t give me a reckless driving charge- just a regular ticket. If I went to court and the judge didn’t dismiss it, they could revoke my license right there. Plus I would have to pay all the court costs. So it was a gamble if I had gone to court. So I just went ahead and paid it.

You can at least get it knocked down to five over the speed limit if you go to court. I've done that before.

@Mardrae Yeah....the last time I went, the judge gathered everyone together and told us that anyone who wanted to knock the violation down to five over the speed limit to come over and pay the fine....I think I got zero points and a reduced fine.
Mardrae · F
@originnone I don’t understand. But you had to pay the fine of the original citation?

@Mardrae I had to pay "a" fine, but they knocked down the amount AND dropped the points. I'd ask around about it. It differs state to state or even by locality.
