ReduceD suicide.

So these are fairly basic and in my opinion obvious ways to increase self esteem and forward thinking toward stopping suicidal actions.
1) having a regular maybe weekly event to look forward to friends, ppl of the opposite sex, socialization, dancing, sporting events etc. This used to be church for many.
2) relationship the companionship of another whether romantic or not allows forward thinking and a soundingboard opportunity. (Romantic is even better)
3) a job hobby or productive excersize. Being able to provide for oneself allows even more forward thinking. The concern is rural rates of suicide are particularly high, despite the assumed productivity of working agriculture. Maybe it's about time away from parentals so might not apply as much to farm labor on the family farm. But still working toward something also attracts like minded ppl.
Those are the positive reinforcement approaches.
Whereas, the negative disincentivization approach might have opposite effect. Still consequence is necessary too. Likewise the building trust take might just fix it.
So
1) curfew extension paired with reward increased limits (later curfew)
2) Drugs so here the debate continues. Where drugs are something to look forward to, the line into obsession crosses easily. Thus consequence regard are difficult here. Again boundary reward adherence extend boundary might work. Plus farms should be growing weed anyway. Example. In my mid teens early 2000s my buddy had a room in his parents house. We would smoke and drink there fairly regularly. Not that the parents support this but realistically they prefer that we do that safely there than out in the woods like we did otherwise. It eventually was Less and less necessary to hide thus building trust and extending boundaries. In reverse if we had gotten caught and they punished we would have just gone elsewhere less safe more Monitored setting.
given the nature of drugs now(laced) maybe we should have everyone grow their own. And unless the parent or guardian gaurantees the quality of what their dependant is getting they are likely to overdose (potentially appears to be suicide). So yea. Especially in rural areas.

You forgot a small but very important detail. Most people who's suicidal struggles with depression and anxiety, that anxiety is often social anxiety meaning they will suffer from joining social events and that's why they get isolated. Further on, trauma makes people isolate too and is the biggest cause to suicide.

If it was this simple as you stated in a 1-2-3 step list, no therapy or psychiatrists would have a job and DSM wouldn't need to exist.

// Someone with suicidal attempts in her history and someone who lost a friend to suicide. Please don't go and spread this condescending none experienced misinformation to kids with mental illness. Unless you've overcome trauma, please don't act like you are smart for telling everyone to just smile and socialise. ..

@Queendragonfly yes it is a very complex multifaceted issue my suggestions will not fix everything but anything to help is necessary. Trauma and anxiety I get I have lots of trauma and social anxiety. Yet without opportunity to socialize or look forward to something how would that anxiety ever go away? Have they released a new dsm recently?

@jehova Complex is the best description. There's no one way solution and it's like you bite yourself in the ass for trying to challenge yourself because it's absolutely exhausting and that exhaustion is something most mental ill people don't afford, cause we need the little energy we gave to, take a call, open the mail, cook food, live?
