My dad told me to cheer up, because when he was my age, he almost went to Vietnam.

Well, gosh oh golly gee, Dad. I guess I never thought of cheering up as a cure for whatever the fuсk is wrong with my brain. Gee willikers, you should write a psychological paper on the healing powers of just looking at the fuсking bright side.

Almost? So he didn't actually go?

@Whodunnit He escaped that fate by joining the army reserves. By today's standard, he still served, he just didn't see any combat.

@LordShadowfire Ahh right. I've no idea how it works over there to be honest.

@Whodunnit He went to basic training and joined the army, and then war broke out in Vietnam. Fortunately, the reservists were not needed in the ongoing battle for whatever the fuck we were really fighting for while pretending to fight for democracy.
