I Am Trying to Find Happiness

Alfred Lord Tennyson wrote in the poem In Memoriam:27, 1850:
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
Would you agree with him based on your experience of lost love?

Yes and no. It's better to have known that you can love. However to realize that some people are incapable of it.. It's better someone doesn't experience that.

You have made reference to a sad truth NoDaveParty, the sooner we learn it the better, otherwise there is no end to the suffering. Unfortunately most of us have to learn it the same way, the hard way.

I never lost love, but I can tell you that not having it for the majority of my life has really screwed with my mind.

when you are young, attempts at love are always a bumbling confusion that leaves you heart broken. If she is kind, then you will have that feeling, after the broken heart has healed, of "Yeah, I did that, she was beautiful, I learned a lot " Those experiences are golden

Hi TexChik. I agree, part of the attraction of new love is it's naive innocence. Innocent blundering is extremely forgivable but beware it is also easily exploited, which is less forgivable the more cunning and calculated it is. How do you tell the difference? By making mistakes I'm afraid.

I have experienced enough to know that love is not real or a privelige denied to some.

Or maybe I'm just incapable of being loved for who I am because even I find that hard myself lol.

pooey, stop being so down on your self and bitter, you are going to be fine. Every journey in life begins with the first step, so get steppin!

Lol I like your sense of humor. The hard part is taking that first step lol.

Hi AbbenThewolfserpent. I guess Tennyson was writing about romantic love but I know from experience that losing a much loved animal or pet can be heartbreaking. Does that mean we should not get too attached? Perhaps the risk of a broken heart is the price we pay for any kind of love at all.

Well that's different when it comes to my canines

Mine were longer than weekends, The lesson is be careful who you fall for, the real person or the actor
will999 · 70-79, M
Hi again Squizz5. You can travel a long way in the wrong direction after a single wrong turn. I agree it's important to be careful who you fall for. The most important ingredient is respect.
Squizz5 · 51-55, M
Hi there, Yes, respect and integrity isn't too much to ask for I don't think, but becoming scarcer these days, well in my experience anyway, but I keep lining up 🙂
Yes. Even when they didn't last, my experiences have been mostly positive. And I wouldn't have missed them for the world.
will999 · 70-79, M
Hello bijouxbroussard. Yes, that reflects my sentiment. Love involves some powerful emotions which can be intoxicating. Even if it does not last the memories will remain fond ones if the relationship, however brief, was built on a foundation of genuine respect.
