Why do members leave "About Me" blank?

I came to Similar Worlds from the now defunct Experience Project. I always check people's profile before adding them as a friend. At EP it was customary to describe onself, where one was from, at least the time zone or country. I assumed that everyone will say something about themselves--but I am shocked that on SW only once have I found any information about somebody by clicking on "About Me" -- I don't understand why someone would join this site, which is to communicate with others, without saying something about themselves and why they are here. Otherwise what is the point? Just mindless ranting? So how about doing all of us, and yourself, a favor by telling something about you.

It just irritates me when people act liked they're owed something.. like no if I want you to know something personal about me then I'll tell you. Mine gives you a glimpse at my personality perhaps but that's about it. I don't remember having to put any personal info on ep do you.. all of it was optional I thought.[/c]

Why do you think a person has to give details about themselves in order to communicate with people? The ones that give all their information are probably looking for something here beyond that. I just come in for a few laughs, debates and to tell off the pervs and trolls.The internet IS all about anonymity after all

@Fernie: I never said ANYTHING about detailed information, but I need enough to know if I want to communicate with them. Anyway I was just posting a very big difference between this site and EP. I preferred EP and find many people on this site not very communicative, either by not posting STORIES and not giving out any information, so I generally don't waste my time communicating with someone on the basis of their brief posts.

@Humanist321: ok,,you didn't say "detailed" information but you sure are demanding people give you their personal information before you have anything to do with them. I'm saying why can't you find out about someone by communicating with them without that info? People reveal themselves unknowingly by their posts and comments and the way they respond to you. They can and DO create what they want you to believe in the "about me " section...I take what I read there with a grain of salt because it is not spontaneous...which is where the truth lies. You'll miss out on some fine people and conversations being the way you are

That's a misconception. Not everyone is here to "communicate".
Some people are here to observe.
Others are just killing time.

Aside from following the TOS, people can use the site as they please.

Similar Worlds is a new site, and is still somewhat under construction. When it first opened the "about me" feature wasn't even in place. So for many members they haven't gone back to fill that in. But there are many that have done so. But not everyone of course.

And as others here have said to you, many prefer not to put anything there. Or don't put anything other than the shorter one line explanation that is visible on the profile without opening the "about me" part. I think most people do put something there, even if they don't do more in depth in the "about me" section.

Because the average IQ here is about 50 and most have nothing to say except bitch and moan about their love life or the music that they like 😄. Have you seen the one word, two word, three word stories yet?. That is about all most here can manage. 3 words 😄

I've added 293 groups that mostly all start with "I" which some have a story to...so that should indicate what I'm about pretty much.

I don't have a big imagination like the rest of the people on here. So if I were to write an "about me" it would be hella boring and it'll make people not want to add me rather than want to add me . sooo its not that bad of a thing either tbh you don't have to be that shocked ...
