Does the left win with a message of hope and does the right win with a message of fear?

I mean this as a general rule, of course. I think it is true.

No, of course not. Leftist just have low enough standards that they're satisfied with perpetual "hope" without any real progress. It's more about complaining and finding the next victim group than actually fixing anything.

In terms of message (which is what my post was about) there is a clear difference. Contrast especially the 'hope and change' message of Obama with Trump hyping up crime and the threat of Islamic terrorism.

Whether Obama succeeded in fulfilling that hope is debatable, as are the reasons why. The right needs its bogeymen; whether it be Islam, Mexicans or student SJW's. Where the left has a bogeyman at all, then it is the 1%.

@Burnley123: that's inane enough to be LAUGHABLE
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Burnley123: hope and change that never happened vs the process of real changes causing fear among the elites. You simply have it all backwards.

yllacsar · 46-50, M
where do you people come from ?? That is SO stupid...
yllacsar · 46-50, M
Only REALLY stupid people would discuss such inanity
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@yllacsar: You are too intelligent to give reasons and too smart to debate with me. OK fine.

Chicken. :-)
yllacsar · 46-50, M
There's nothing about your inane, meaningless and inaccurate generalizations that's worth discussing let alone debating......you're a blathering idiot

The left always use the message of fear.

"Vote for us or you'll get those evil far right Nazis. They've launched a war on women, gays, blacks, Jews, muslims, eskimos, animals, trees, oxygen."
Booyeah · 41-45, M
@Burnley123: The modern liberal advocates for socialism, so I don't see the problem.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@Booyeah:
The modern liberal advocates for socialism,
Pfffff. Not even sure where to start with that.

Please look up the definitions of 'liberal' and 'socialist'.
Yes, the left is full of strawman arguments.
Also look up the word 'irony'.
Booyeah · 41-45, M
@Burnley123: Look up the phrase "red herring".
retrowaves · 31-35, F
from an objective standpoint, yes.
You hit it on the nosey!

Our side wins with a message of hope and the other side with a message of fear. That applies to both the left and the right.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@ B Exactly the opposite. SJW's sew fear of conservatives more and the conservatives clean up the mess caused the the SJW's.
adshaw · 36-40, M
Those descriptions could fit either side of the spectrum.
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
Perhaps. I just think that the contrast between Trump and Obama is very striking in this regard.
jackjjackson · 61-69, M
@Burnley123: um they were not the candidates. Mrs Clinton was the losing (deservedly) candidate.

Sounds like the twin edged sword of heaven and hell; a very useful ploy in religion.
Xuan12 · 31-35, M
I think Trump is just a different flavor of "hope and change".
