Does the left win with a message of hope and does the right win with a message of fear?

I mean this as a general rule, of course. I think it is true.

No, of course not. Leftist just have low enough standards that they're satisfied with perpetual "hope" without any real progress. It's more about complaining and finding the next victim group than actually fixing anything.

In terms of message (which is what my post was about) there is a clear difference. Contrast especially the 'hope and change' message of Obama with Trump hyping up crime and the threat of Islamic terrorism.

Whether Obama succeeded in fulfilling that hope is debatable, as are the reasons why. The right needs its bogeymen; whether it be Islam, Mexicans or student SJW's. Where the left has a bogeyman at all, then it is the 1%.
