I've had multiple people—both atheists and Christians—tell me things like...

"I like to pretend like God is real sometimes because it's nice" or "You may as well believe because a reality without God is depressing."

Yes, it is depressing. Does that mean God is real?

Since this is the internet, I have to clarify, I ask this question more in terror than challenge. I'm terrified of there being no God.

Considering how human beings are... and that in the myths, we are the creation of God. Considering what we know, on how human beings make descisions, spoiler alert: there is very little if any "free will" to be found. Maybe you should be a bit more fearfull of the idea that there is a God that created us. Espescially if we are made in the image of that creator. And if you also look at the universe, where a giant rock can randomly wipe us out if it gets caught by the gravitational field of our planet. Or our excistence, where a bacteria or virus can mutate and wipe out a large part of humanity in the most horrible way, ... I mean, if there is a creator look at His works and despair.

Luckely... there is no proof for the hypothesis of an intelligent being behind what we are perceiving. So at the moment, I wouldn't live if there was something hiding behind the curtain.

If you need something to worship, then worship life - all life, every last crawling bit of it! We're all in this beauty together!

The Grandiose OverlorD personified by humans is not a requirement. Its an easy out. Reality exists. . . Assuming creation is lazy. I believe in Science in pursuit of understanding and explaining existence.

@SW-User and reality (existence) especially in todays politicized world is being omitted altered and supplimented by "convenient truths" that favor a political perspective. That is reality (existing) denying existence (reality).
Plus its only getting worse.

@exchrist And those aligned to a false belief will try to make it the official belief for their nation.

Well, the gospel brings Hope that's why Catholicism is beautiful.

Do not fear... Life has an author and He is the beginning and the end (the Alpha and the Omega). He is the Creator and the Destroyer. Seek Him with an open heart and mind and you will find Him. 🙏

@SinlessOnslaught Even more so.
@sarabee1995 I saw much less than you have and it erased my identity let alone my faith.

@SinlessOnslaught I understand. Our challenges were different. But we've both ... we've all ... been shaped by the broken roads we've traveled. This world is not perfect. We are not perfect. But this is not all there is.

God is love, love is real. God is real, maybe your logical mind cant grasp the concept but your intuitive one should just know or at least believe without having to know for certain.

One is irrational optimism. The other is rational pessimism. Both are provably wrong.
@SW-User Is this some knowledge that's been discovered or more of a theory?
SW-User
@SinlessOnslaught It's been around for almost a century but is kept hidden away from public access due to somewhat legitimate national security concerns. It's a proven theory with lots of reliable evidence, now perfected. It would render all the current religions false and cause widespread global upheaval.
@SW-User You've hooked me.
