What do you base your beliefs on

Why do so many people base their beliefs on just the bible. And literary? Why would you not take everything into consideration. Logic and feelings. To me it's like trying to cross the lake in a boat but refusing the paddle. 🤣 And then saying the boat's no good 🙄

My adage is: If it’s not science, it’s superstition.

“Don't you believe in flying saucers, they ask me? Don't you believe in telepathy? — in ancient astronauts? — in the Bermuda triangle? — in life after death?
No, I reply. No, no, no, no, and again no.

One person recently, goaded into desperation by the litany of unrelieved negation, burst out "Don't you believe in anything?"

"Yes", I said. "I believe in evidence. I believe in observation, measurement, and reasoning, confirmed by independent observers. I'll believe anything, no matter how wild and ridiculous, if there is evidence for it. The wilder and more ridiculous something is, however, the firmer and more solid the evidence will have to be.”

@BlueSkyKing Gotta love old Isaac. A man of great intellect and wit. He is sorely missed.

@BlueSkyKing you sound just like the person who says the boat's no good but never took the oar. We are emotional Beings. Why deny them now?
@Millerdog So are all mammals. However, humans are pattern seeking creatures that can think in abstract. That is unique. Also we are uncomfortable with being ignorant. Often going with the magic before trying the science. There is a lot we can’t know, but the mysteries that have been solved so far have no magic behind them.

@Millerdog Why conflate emotion with reason when everyday there is demonstrated how emotion clouds our thinking?
